about

Azimuth , the new recording ofTurbogolfer Duo (s), project led by electric guitarist ALBERTO TURRA, is another step in his investigation of relationships among different styles, contents and meanings in improvised jazz, post-rock, avan garde and free form music fields. Azimuth is developed through the dialogue between guitar drums. Six drummers are involved, each one performing two tracks, the sound of the album is inspired by experiences, often one far from the other: from the more folk and intimate side of Frisell to the violent wall of sounds of Ruins and Mogwai. The repertoire covers a very wide spectrum of atmospheres. From the brightest side of Ben Allison to Steve Coleman’s funkier writing, touching a movement of Coltrane’s A Love Supreme or a Berber lullaby, close to etno-prog moods, all written and arranged following the rules established by the art of duo playing designed by projects such as Melhiana (Brad Meldau, Mark Guiliana), the duo Blade/Mouthspiel, or the Cheval de Frise, just to mention few.
Twelve tracks were recorded, live in studio in three days, two drummers each day, two tracks for each drummer. One is a cover of an illustrious tune, the other is an original composition named after the drummer involved. A courageous disc that explores, fearless, unusual musical spaces, drawing original lines of conjunction between music.
